Restaurant Rewards: Burger King

This post is not sponsored in any way by Burger King and represents the sole opinion of therewardsmaster.com. Therewardsmaster.com is not receiving any compensation as a result of this review.

Burger King offers a rewards program (Crown Rewards) that produces good returns on spending when partnered with rewards from credit cards and additional partners (United MileagePlus X). The following is my review of Burger King’s rewards program.

Rewards Program – B:

Like many other restaurant rewards programs, Burger King awards reward points for dollars spent at a rate of 10 “crown points” per dollar. Therefore, spending 10 dollars yields 100 crown points. However, it is important to note that Burger King often offers “bonus points” that equal up to 100% of the rewards earned. There is no schedule for these bonuses, but they award them at least 50% of the time.

The actual return on spending is challenging to determine because of the random bonus points. On base earnings, the return is around 7%, with 250 points earning a sandwich worth $1.79. This rate seems consistent as the reward cost increases for more expensive menu items. Therefore, you can count on at least a 7% return on your spending and any credit card or other rewards earned for your Burger King Purchases.

Rewards Partnerships – B:

Burger King partners with the United MileagePlus X app, one of the Rewards Master’s recommended rewards apps. When ordering gift cards through the app, Burger King offers 2 United miles per dollar spent on the MileagePlus X. The results can be good when the United MileagePlus X app is used in conjunction with Burger King rewards. Suppose a purchaser has a United branded credit card. In that case, they receive an additional 25% bonus miles, resulting in 2.5 United miles per dollar spent.

Ease of Use – A:

The Burger King rewards app is simple and easy to use. Choose a location and build your order through the app. Burger King sends an email with your receipt, and the app provides an order number you provide at the drive-thru.

You can make payments through the app through a credit or gift card. The Mileage Plus X gift cards are easy to input and have always worked seamlessly for me.

Food/Beverage Quality – C:

We are talking about Burger King. They are a classic major fast-food chain with expected food quality. The burgers, chicken fries, and sandwiches are all adequate, but certainly nothing to write home about.

Burger King provides good value, primarily when used with the MileagePlus X rewards app and a credit card earning 3-5x in the dining category. I use their program regularly and have achieved good rewards through the program. The ability to “triple-dip” with the United MileagePlus X app is a nice feature and differentiates them from most of their fast-food competitors.

Final Grade – B
