Review: United Polaris Business Class

Reviewing any business-class product feels like determining if it’s better to have a million dollars or a new yacht; either choice is far better than most people would ever expect. Business class on international flights, even the worst product in the skies, is leaps and bounds better than flying economy. You can’t go wrong with almost any business-class product with lie-flat seats, enhanced entertainment options, upgraded service, and real food. Yet, there can be no doubt that with direct comparison, some airline’s business-class products are better than others.

My player two and I experienced this firsthand on a recent trip from the United States to Rome. We flew United Business class to Rome and British Airways business class for the return. While both flights were a pleasant experience and far superior to riding in the back of the plane, the Polaris flight was far better than BA.

Our Polaris journey began in Dullus with a layover in Brussels. We started by visiting the Polaris business lounge. The lounge was elegant, with beautiful décor and ample seating. The buffet food was a step above the cuisine available in standard United clubs, offering more choices of higher quality. The lounge has several private rooms and a sit-down section where guests can order from a menu. The only negative was how crowded the lounge became. There was barely an open seat.

As we boarded our flight, we were impressed with the quality of the seats. We were seated together in the middle section in adjoining lie-flat seats. Our area was spacious and extremely comfortable. I’m over six feet tall and have plenty of legroom while seated and lying down. A comfortable pillow and blanket by Saks Fifth Avenue were provided, and flight attendants were available to make up passengers’ beds if requested.

The food was excellent, with ample portions. We were offered two meals, including dinner right after takeoff and breakfast before landing. The service was excellent, but my flight attendant was better than the one assigned to my wife, who didn’t check in on her quite as often.

Overall, we found United Polaris delightful. While it isn’t quite as luxurious as Emirates or Singapore, every aspect of the Polaris experience is quality and far above many business-class competitors. I wholeheartedly recommend the United Polaris Business class if you can score a reasonable redemption.
